Who of Israel Entered Canaan? In the September number of the Era, page 1020, the follow- ing statement occurred in the advanced senior class lesson, re- lating to the entrance of the Children of Israel into Canaan:

80 IMPROVEMENT ERA Being *l<>\ l<> believe and quick to doubt, their progress was snail-like; ->fthe thousands who started only two survived the forty years' journey to the Land of Promise.

As a general proposition, not intended as a detailed, tech- oical account of the event referred to, this statement is correct enough, but, to prevent any misunderstanding, it may be just as well to add that the death sentence passed by the Lord upon the generation that was led out of Egypt by Moses, on account of rebellion and murmuring, did not include the children or younger members of the families. According to Numbers 14: 28-31, the Lord said to Moses: Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you: your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me, doubtless yo shall not come into the land concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua, the son of Nun. But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in.

from this that those under twenty years at the It is clear time of the first census after the exodus were not included under the general conviction. But that even many of these died in the wilderness can hardly be doubted. Children and young people are passing away everywhere, every year. The survivors entered Canaan under the leadership of Joshua. This was not explicitly stated in the Era, but it is well un- derstood by Bible readers.
