Yankee Doughboys" Entrained for the Front Line Trenches

These are the types of the American boys who have been the recipients of Grner->1 Persh'ng's praise, especially in the Chateau-Thierry sector. The Yankee boys in this sector and in other parts of the battle line took many prisoners and machine guns. The boys shown in this picture are on their way to the front line trenches and are stopping along the road for refresh- ments. They were doubtless in the great counter attacks which stopped the fifth German Drive, July 18, and later made the Americans heroes of the Marne-Rheims-Soissons battles that followed in July and August.
