Dawn
Ye skies of dawn! Ye skies of dawn!
What royal grace thy pride hath on!
The curtains of the night withdrawn,
Awake, rejoice! The dawn! the dawn!
0 glorious purple hills of dawn!
What scenes Hope's magic wand hath drawn!
The shadows and the night are gone —
0 glowing, happy hills of dawn!
Ye little birds! Ye birds of dawn,
(The sameness of the shade withdrawn)
Sing out a chorus on the lawn!
Ye cherry-throated birds of dawn!
Ye fields of dawn! bright fields of dawn!
What scenes thy glory smiles upon!
Where fears be scattered frail and wan,
Ye rosy, gleaming hills of dawn!
But 0, ye skies! Ye skies of dawn!
What royal grace thy pride hath on!
The curtain of the night withdrawn,
Awake! Rejoice! The dawn, the dawn!
Minnie Iverson Hodapp
